Meet Ekom!

Ekom is a tall and strong male giraffe living in Faro National Park in Cameroon. He was caught on camera one afternoon near the Fel 1 pond, which fills up during the rainy season. At 9 years old, he’s fully grown—standing a massive 5.7 meters tall and weighing around 950 kg! His coat has dark brown to black patches that look a bit different from other types of giraffes. Ekom spends his time in the shrublands and woodlands around the pond, munching on leaves, fruits, flowers, and seeds from trees like acacias, combretum, and tamarinds. He’s part of the rare Kordofan giraffes, and watching him helps scientists learn more about how to protect these amazing animals.
